The Place where the Breath Leads, Sound Follows, Movement Unfolds.
The Temple In Sussex
The Temple in Sussex is an extraordinary oak-framed structure unlike any other. Its unique architectural design brings together traditional craftsmanship, sacred geometry and the natural world to create a place dedicated to stillness, healing and human connection.
Within the Temple we gather for yoga, qigong, sound baths, retreats, complementary therapies, talks, prayer, meditation, mantra and countless other practices that nourish body, mind and spirit. It is a place where people can slow down, breathe deeply and return to themselves.
Rooted in the Sikh philosophy of Chardi Kala, the eternal rising spirit, The Temple holds space for people of every background and belief.
The idea first came to me more than five years ago. I wanted to create a temple in my garden: somewhere that honoured contemplation, bodywork and healing. I found myself drawn to one of nature's most remarkable creations, the hexagonal honeycomb built by bees. At the time, I was involved in a wetland restoration project that included introducing eight colonies of honeybees. Watching their extraordinary instinct for beauty, order and harmony became the inspiration for what would eventually become the Temple.
Once the design had taken shape, I shared the vision with local craftsman John White. Over the next four years, John brought the Temple to life almost entirely with his own hands. Every beam, every pillar and every joint reflects his remarkable skill and patience. In the finest tradition of Sussex oak framing, the entire structure is held together with handcrafted oak pegs, each one driven into place using techniques that have changed little over the centuries. One of the Temple's most distinctive features is the ingenious way its doors open outwards, as well as the uniquely designed glass roof, flooding the interior with light.
Each side of the Temple can be opened fully to the surrounding landscape, allowing the sights, sounds and scents of nature to become part of the experience. Yet it can also be enclosed, creating an intimate and protected retreat from the outside world. In the colder months, a powerful wood-burning stove fills the space with warmth, making it as welcoming in winter as it is in the height of summer.
Throughout the year, the Temple becomes home to intimate retreats, usually welcoming between eight and twelve people for immersive weekends and week-long workshops. Again and again, we witness the same transformation. People arrive carrying the pace and pressures of everyday life and leave feeling lighter, calmer and deeply inspired. Almost without exception, guests remark on how much they love the Temple. Many describe it as unlike anywhere they have ever been, not simply because of the activities they have experienced within it, but because of the atmosphere the building itself creates. It seems to invite a different way of being: quieter, more present and more deeply connected to nature, to others and to themselves.
The Temple is more than a building. It is a living expression of craftsmanship, nature and stillness, where ancient building traditions meet timeless practices of healing and contemplation. Everyone who steps through its doors becomes part of its story, and everyone leaves carrying a little of its peace with them.

Its peaceful atmosphere and distinctive architecture create a setting that naturally invites reflection, learning, healing and transformation.

Catering
I often provide catering, if required, for the workshops, retreats and events held at The Temple. Whether preparing a meal for a small gathering or catering for twenty people or more, I take great pleasure in creating food that nourishes both body and spirit.
My cooking is rooted in the rich traditions of Punjabi, East African and Indian cuisine, while also drawing inspiration from flavours and dishes from around the world. Many of the meals I prepare are based on the principles of Ayurveda. Rather than following rigid recipes, Ayurvedic cooking is a living approach to food, shaped by the seasons, digestion and the individual. It brings together fresh ingredients, warming spices and mindful preparation to create meals that nourish the body, settle the senses and support balance from within. The result is vibrant, wholesome, home-cooked food that is both deeply satisfying and thoughtfully prepared.
There is always an abundance. Fragrant vegetarian curries, comforting pots of dahl, freshly prepared rice, seasonal vegetables, salads, fruit and homemade accompaniments are laid out generously, with guests encouraged to return for second and even third helpings. Throughout the day there are endless pots of tea, together with morning refreshments and light afternoon fare, creating an atmosphere of warmth, hospitality and celebration.
Catering can be tailored to the needs of each group and is available on request for workshops, retreats, teacher trainings, private ceremonies and other events held at The Temple.
Abundance and beauty are at the heart of everything.
